Aquaculture Research

Mission/Overview

The Lincoln University Aquaculture Program provides educational resources and research-based insights to advance production among aquaculture producers, prospective farmers and the general public. By addressing the unique challenges of aquaculture producers with practical solutions, we contribute to the industry's growth, sustainability and long-term success in Missouri.

Programs

We offer a range of programs covering agriculture, natural resources, family and community health, economic well-being and youth development. Best of all, many of these programs are free or available at affordable rates. Take a moment to explore the list below.

Aquaculture is a rapidly growing sector of the U.S. agricultural industry, which holds immense potential for long-term food security, nutrition and improved living standards. By adopting sustainable practices that consider economic, social and environmental aspects, aquaculture can benefit everyone, particularly underserved populations and those with limited resources, while fostering healthy ecosystems.

  • General nutrition
  • Pond management
  • Live feeds
  • Algae production
  • Pest management (including pesticide applicator training and testing)
  • Recirculating system design and operations

Research and Extension Focus

Our research programs are designed to address the priority needs of aquaculture producers by developing practical, science-based solutions. Our Extension specialists work closely with producers to enhance operations, focusing on key areas such as fish nutrition, environmental studies, water quality monitoring, emerging production species, recirculating aquaculture systems, multi-trophic aquaculture and pond production.
